Basic Profile: Wakka's name means water in Ainu, which is fitting for his character concidering he loves the game of Blitzball.
Wakka is the first character that Tidus encounters of Besaid Island. Tidus quickly warms up to the man since he notices quickly that Wakka loves the game of Blitzball, something that Tidus adores and actively plays. Wakka not only plays Blitzball, but is also the coach of the team from that Island, the Besaid Aurochs. Sadly, though, the Aurochs have not won a single Blitzball game in ten years.
Wakka plans on retiring after the tournament so his goal for the team before he does so is to win in the tournament.
After retiring, Wakka hopes to become a full-time guardian to his friend, the Summoner Yuna.

Wakka grew up on Besaid with Yuna, Lulu, and his brother, Chappu. Eventually, Chappu got involved romantically with Lulu and the two got engaged, however, this did not end will as Chappu went of to join a group known as the Crusaders. The Crusaders are a military group that works to defeat Sin.
Chappu left the sword Wakka had given him, the Brotherhood, in Besaid and fought against Sin using Al Bhed technology. Sin ended up killing Chappu, which hardened Wakka's hate for the Al Bhed race, making him quite prejudice towards them, and firmly believing in the teachings of Yevon.
Throughout the game, Wakka is faced with various situations with people of the Al Bhed race. Though he does not treat them nicely at all at first, Wakka does slowly begin to learn acceptance for the people, looking more at the fact that they are all human, just like himself.
